Hyperon

OpenCog’s neural-symbolic AI substrate — a framework for building AI systems that combine symbolic reasoning with neural network learning. Hyperon provides the underlying infrastructure for large-scale experiments in artificial general intelligence, including the “algorithmic chemistry” approach explored by Ben Goertzel.

Role in Goertzel research: Hyperon infrastructure is described as ready for large-scale experiments combining:

  • Neural networks (pattern recognition, sub-symbolic processing)
  • Symbolic reasoning (logic, deduction, explicit representation)
  • Algorithmic chemistry (self-organizing computational ecosystems)

Relevance to RegenTribes: The Hyperon/AtomSpace architecture is an example of a multi-level, self-referencing knowledge representation system — similar in spirit to the regenerative community design goal of creating nested, self-similar governance structures at household, village, and bioregion scales.

Status: Stub — derived from Goertzel discussion. Needs primary source from OpenCog/Hyperon documentation.
